Or, think about the vision that President Kennedy had for American; it was radical and wonderful and we would all become our best selves and then Vietnam happened and the shooting that killed him and the dream and then all of the violence that followed about the war and about race and about Women's issues and gender issues and all the rest. The future always starts out looking real good, and ends up being just the mess we make it."
